Where you go.
Becket is Newfoundland and Labrador’s new network of Integrated Youth Services hubs — safe, welcoming spaces built to support youth aged 12–29.
What is Becket?
Becket connects young people with the services they need — all under one roof. From mental health and wellness to employment, housing, and social support, our Integrated Youth Services hubs offer wraparound care in a safe, non-judgmental space.
Integrated Youth Services Hubs Are Coming to Newfoundland and Labrador
Becket was created in response to a simple but urgent truth: too many young people in Newfoundland and Labrador are unable to access the support they need, when they need it most.
That’s where Integrated Youth Services (IYS) come in. IYS is a global movement transforming how young people and their families access care — bringing mental health, addictions, primary care, peer support, and social services together in a single, youth-friendly location that meets the unique needs of youth in their communities.
Following six years of consultation and engagement with steering committees across NL, in 2024, Choices for Youth stepped forward as the backbone organization to lead the creation of a province-wide IYS network alongside communities across the province. The project was developed in close partnership with Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services and a coalition of generous national and provincial funders.
That same year, a public call for proposals was launched — inviting communities across the province to imagine what local IYS could look like. We are now proud to announce the first official Becket hubs:
- **NEW** Becket Corner Brook – Operated by Vine Place Community Centre (anticipated opening: 2026)
- Becket St. John’s – Operated by Choices for Youth (operational since 2004)
Each of these hubs will be operated by an established community organization acting as the local “lead agency,” following Becket’s shared standards of care while tailoring services to reflect local needs.
These welcoming, youth-friendly spaces will offer integrated access to mental health care, housing support, career services, education programs, peer connection, and more.
In Canada, all provinces and territories have IYS hubs either in operation or in development. Becket is proud to join this pan-Canadian initiative.
Why Becket Matters
65% of homeless youth need support from 4 or more public systems at once.
In St. John’s, the average age of first homelessness is just 16.
70% of mental health issues start before adulthood — yet fewer than 1 in 4 youth get the help they need.
20% of Canada’s homeless population are between 13–24 years old.
1 in 5 youth aged 15–29 are dealing with mental illness or substance use.
